SPDC Remits $31bn To Federation Account 

Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) remitted 29.8 billion dollars to the federation account and 1.2 billion dollars to Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) between 2002 and 2016. Mr Igo Weli, General Manager, External Relations, made the disclosure on Monday in Port Harcourt while reacting to the shut-down of SPDC flow station and gas plant in Belema community by angry youths. Mudslide Kills Over 300 In Sierra Leone 

More than 300 people were killed when a mudslide struck the outskirts of Sierra Leone’s capital Freetown on Monday, sweeping away homes. The Red Cross said at least 205 bodies had been taken to the central morgue in Freetown. Police and military personnel were at the scene in the mountain town of Regent searching for people trapped in the debris. The death toll is expected to rise as more bodies are recovered, Red Cross spokesman Abu Bakarr Tarawallie said.  Vice President Victor Foh told Reuters at the scene: “It is likely that hundreds are lying dead underneath the rubble.”...

Why Edo Speaker Was Impeached 

Hon. Justin Okonoboh, the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, has been impeached and replaced with Hon. Kabiru Adjoto. He was impeached on Monday by the lawmakers at the Assembly complex in Benin City, but Okonoboh said his impeachment was illegal and ordered the suspension of those involved in the exercise.
